Purpose & Overview:
The AAOE Leadership Academy is designed to enhance the professional growth of early career orthopedic practice administrators and emerging leaders through leadership coaching, instruction, and engagement with AAOE national and state/regional associations. The AAOE Leadership Academy will combine required text reading, distance learning activities, advocacy engagement, and a personal project designed to advance the participant’s career.

Eligibility:
The 2024 Leadership Academy Class will consist of 10 participants who are recommended or sponsored by BONES Society of Florida, MidAtlantic BONES, Midwest AAOE or Southeastern Association of Orthopaedic Executives. Participants applying on this page must be members of SAOE.
Registration Process and Fees:
SAOE participants will apply below. Application links will be distributed to members and must be submitted by March 1, 2024. Members are encouraged to share the link with emerging leaders in their organizations. Participants will be notified of their acceptance by March 15, 2024. Program registration is $350.
Required Assessment & Reading:
In addition to the registration fee, participants will be required to complete an assessment tool and a book on leadership as noted below, at additional cost to the participant:
Program Communications:
AAOE will host a private group on its Collaborate platform for current participants and Alumni of the Leadership Academy to distribute articles of interest and reminders of upcoming events. Participants are encouraged to use the platform to communicate with one another.

Participants are required to participate in the events listed below.
1. AAOE Annual Meeting
April 26-29, 2024 | Hyatt Regency | Chicago, IL
Leadership Academy participants are expected to attend the AAOE Annual Meeting. Current participants, Leadership Academy alumni, AAOE staff will gather at least once during the conference. Registration for the AAOE Annual Meeting will be waived, however, participants are required to pay for their travel and hotel for this event.
2. Distance Learning Modules (1-Hour Webinars)
Instructor: Laurie K. Baedke, FACHE, FACMPE
Laurie will lead us through a dynamic curriculum of four modules listed below. Each module includes the webinar itself, 2-3 corresponding articles or TEDTalks related to the webinar topic, and a 1-page worksheet of reflection questions for participant consideration following the session. All material will be available on the Collaborate Platform and ongoing discussion among participants is encouraged in that setting.
3. Virtual Advocacy Training
Participants will receive virtual training in health policy advocacy applicable to state and federal legislative and regulatory issues. The exact format of this training is TBA.
4. Local Association Engagement
Participants are encouraged to attend meetings to participate in a Leadership Exchange with the Board of Directors.
Career Road Map:
Participants will work with our facilitator to develop a Career Road Map based on their experiences in this program and their future professional goals.
